On Saturday Clare and myself drove the 20 miles or so from Wells to Brean Down, the high promontory jutting out into the Bristol channel which divides Burnham-on-Sea from Weston-super-Mare. We parked on the beach and walked up the steep steps to the top. It's then a pleasant half-mile walk out towards the water - we ended up at the trig point (Clare shown below, looking back towards Weston).
Here's a picture of me being blasted by the on-shore wind, Flat Holm behind.
And here's a picture of the famous goats (one of them anyway). We bravely walked through a herd of them on the way back: they dutifully separated for us.
We're high and there's quite a view looking back towards Wells (you can't see it). Our car is down there somewhere.
Then we drove home and bought two gigantic helpings of fish 'n' chips.
